| Bon's Former Pipe Band Competing In Scotland August 2009 |
|
When the Scott family moved to Fremantle Western Australia in 1956 they joined the Caledonian Society and The Caledonian Scots Pipe Band of Fremantle, these day the band is known as the Coastal Scottish Pipe Band WA, Many of its members knew Bon and his family and competed against Bon as a young up and coming drummer, This year Coastals are competing at the Pipe Band World Championships in Scotland,After winning the Grade Four New Zealand Championships in 2007, Coastal made the decision to compete at the home of pipe bands – Scotland. 8th August 2009 North Berwick Pipe Band Competitions 15th August 2009 World Pipe Band Championships Success in Western Australia continued after the New Zealand trip and Coastals were upgraded to Grade Three. This presents a bigger challenge. The standard at the World Championships is very high and Coastals are under no illusions about the effort required to achieve a top placing. Bands from all over the world attend this event and the knowledge and experienced gained will be valuable. Financing the venture has been demanding and personal contributions play a large percentage of the total funding. Coastals are not sponsored at present and funds come from parades and fundraising. With the need for new uniforms also contributing to costs, the grant received from Lotterywest for eight new kilts, glengarries and minor updates has been most appreciated. It is an exciting time for the team that will be travelling to Scotland in August. No matter what results are achieved the event will be an awesome experience. Good luck to Coastal Scottish Pipe Band WA, Rock On and do us proud! |
